Hauntforum had a tombstone building contest in 2006 I believe and I decided to compete.
I had cast a mache copy of a Boomer skull which you can see in the above picture. Then I went about the normal process of using pink foam to make the rest of the stone.
Using cheap foam skulls for the corners from rite-aid or someplace and a broken Mr. Thrifty skeleton in the center. The whole thing is a bit front heavy but a bit of anchoring fixes that. I had to do a bit of research on painting. I never was quite satisfied with the paint job. But at night it looks OK.

For the base coat of paint I used a latex based spray paint from Krylon H20 in black (it wont eat into the foam). Then I used various acrylic and exterior latex house paints to "dirty up" the surface with sponges and rags. To get the drippy look at the top I used watered down acrylics and a spray bottle of water. I painted the paint in the eyes and then sprayed it down and let it run down the surface.
