This piece was made in 2007. It was a large scarecrow that stood in the corner of my yard facing out towards the street. My house was on a corner and my yard was 4 feet vertically up from the sidewalk. The scarecrow was maybe 8 feet tall, so from the street it was very tall. Its head is maybe 20 inches from chin to forehead. I used a lot of burlap in my display that year (OK most years) I like the texture of it.
A few friends of mine converge on my house the night before Halloween to take pictures so we can set the lighting appropriately for camera work. This photo continues to amaze me in how it came out, the burlap it almost looks fake. The only light on it was a small par can with a orange gel below it, the rest of the light is from a street light on the corner I think (my memory fails me, that street light doesn’t always work).
I still have his head downstairs in a box somewhere just waiting for a new body.

Awesome scarecrow ! I’m wanting to create a large scarecow and a creepy field of corn in my back yard this year. Normally, I only do front yard/garage decorations, but as things grow, I’m starting to branch out. My back yard faces a public walking trail – it would be a great attention getter.
By the way, I just reccently found your site, it’s great ! VERY helpful and inspiring!
Fantastic….but slightly disturbing that his head is “downstairs” in a box waiting for a new body. Bet your house can be a bit creepy at times!!!
Yes, it can be, most of the pieces are just sitting there in my shop in the corners behind my back as I work staring at me.
Ahhhh, that is fabulous!
Amazing piece and a stunning photograh! Thans for sharing.
Cheers!
