Over the past many years my Halloween display has evolved from one thing into another. It has grown and changed into something unrecognizable. This year I am going to downsize considerably. The area I decorate is around 1200 sq feet, and all outdoors. Over time I had a graveyard, a swamp area with a shanty and witch, a spider scene, various other things. None of it was cohesive at all, but due to the lighting and nature of my yard I was able to make the visitors wind around the yard and go from area to area.
Some of this had to do with never getting rid of older pieces, becoming a Halloween hoarder of sorts. Well over the last few years I made several trips to the dump. May they rest in peace.
This year I will go back to the basics, a smaller area for my display. Graveyard fence, a few of my zombie and character pieces appropriately placed, tombstones, pumpkins, candlelight. Very simple.

I'm doing the same thing. No party = less work this year, and next year will be very different with a new theme for the main display. Recycling and giving new homes to old props is a trend I think for this year and the next few to come.
Always love seeing your work, you'll always be one of my best inspirations.
I try to update my haunt with new props every year, and give my older props away to other haunters. I usually regret getting rid of some of those props, but it is nice to see them put to good use in other haunts. I think I will always have a graveyard of some sort, since that's my favorite part… but I hope to always have at least a few new props every year. Out with the old, and in with the new is the way I try to think of it.
Oh no, have you done away with the "how to" section?? We loved your work!
The how-to section is still here, you may find it by selecting "how-to" in the category drop down in the right column. I am glad that you like my stuff.
I'm planning on a similar approach this year too. Job and time constraints demand it. But in some ways, I think it might end up being more effective.
